MILK AND HARMONY VISITS
During your Milk and Harmony visit you can expect:

Health, Birth, and Breastfeeding History

We start with a brief health, birth, and breastfeeding history to understand the whole picture.

Assessment Of Mother's Breast And Infant's Oral Anatomy

Visual and physical assessments, if you are comfortable, can be helpful in determining underlying issues and your plan of care.

Observed Infant Feeding At Breast

Observed breastfeeding is best done at a home visit. Seeing families in their own space where they are most comfortable and most often breastfeeding their baby is the best place to help.

Pre/Post Infant Feeding Weights

Pre and post infant weight measurements are used to determine how much milk an infant consumes during a nursing session. Your lactation consultant can do this during your visit with a portable scale.

Individualized Plan of Care

Together, you and your lactation consultant will come up with a feeding plan tailored specifically to each family’s unique needs and goals. Referrals will be provided as needed.

Information on Pumping

First of all, pumping is breastfeeding. So if you are exclusively pumping, We are here for you too! Your lactation consultant can help you set up your pump, properly fit you for breast pump flanges, discuss when to pump and expected milk volume output, as well as give you evidence-based tips for optimal milk output.

FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCTS
Breastfeeding is natural, but may have ups and downs, especially at the beginning. Below are signs that you should reach out for support:

If You Are Having Pain Breastfeeding

When babies are latched on wrong, it can hurt or feel like a pinch each time your baby sucks. Over time, this can lead to painful, sore, cracked nipples. If you have pain during breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or lactation consultant to make sure your baby is properly latched or that something else isn’t going on.

If You Have Been Told To Supplement With Formula

We are here to help. There are many reasons you may have been told to supplement your baby, but if your preference is to breastfeed, now is the time to reach out.

If You Have Been Told To Pump After Feeding

Pumping after breastfeeding is hard, and that is a lot to ask of anyone with a new baby. We can work together to make a plan that makes the most sense for your family.

Are "Triple Feeding" (Breast/Bottle/Pump)

We are here for you. Please call now for a free 15 minute consultation. Being told to “triple feed,” while well-meaning, is not sustainable. Any new parent or NICU parent who has been told this in the past, will tell you the same. You have options, and the best thing you can do is protect your milk supply.

You Have Any Questions, Concerns, Just Need Reassurance

Is this your first baby? Your second and it’s been awhile? Your third but first time breastfeeding? Great! We are happy to help ALL families. All are welcome at Milk and Harmony. Sometimes things are going well, and you just want to make sure your baby is getting enough milk. Sometimes birth was very traumatic, leaving you uncertain about everything. We are here to hear your stories and provide non judgemental support to your family in whatever ways we can help.

You Are Using A Nipple Shield But Want To Stop

A favorite phrase at Milk and Harmony is that “babies don’t nipple feed, they breastfeed!” While nipples can prove themselves important in the process, have no fear, many babies have transitioned off of nipple shields. We are here to work with you and come up with a plan to help you transition from the nipple shield.
